Meanwhile back in Pennsylvania-- Elihu Beckwith Kingsley's life

As I had written earlier, Elihu still counted Mary in the 1870 census as if she was living with him in Pennsylvania.  The census shows the following:

Sheffield, Warren, Penna 28 July 1870
Household 75 family number 74.
Kingsley, E.B. 52 male, peeling bark, b. Penna
Kingsley, Mary S 33 Female, keeping house, b. Penna
Fremont 14 male at school b. penna
George W. 11, male, at school, b. penna
Charles 9 male at school b. penna
Emma 5 female b. penna
Archibald 2 male b. penna

Besides the fact that Mary and Archie were not there at the time, Archie is listed as age 2.  He would have been 4.  Does this signal the timing of Mary's departure?  That Elihu reported Archie as age 2 might reflect that this is the age at which he saw him last.

Emma died in 1871 according to family records in possession of Belle Barnes Conquer, kept originally by Elihu and Mary's daughter Rose.  Rose isn't listed with the family; she had married around 1870-1871 to Richard Bloss.  And Kathryn Emily had been given away to be raised by the Barnes family, although she doesn't appear in their household in the census either.

By the 1880 census, Elihu is living with his brother and considers himself a widow.  George W. is living with them in Conewango, Warren, PA.

The other children married over the years too.  Fremont married Ida Ruland in 1879.  Charles married in 1892 and Kathryn Emily married in 1891.  When did they find their mother and brother?  Was it around 1886 when Rose delivered her 8th child, a son and named him Archie?  It was before Archie's marriage in 1893.

Elihu died on 14 May 1900.  His death was mentioned in the newspaper 'Evening Democrat' among others.  "Died Eliheu [sic] Kingsley died at his home in North Warren on Tuesday aged 82 years.  Mr. Kingsley was an old resident of Warren county and was highly respected.  The funeral services were held today and the interment was in the Russell Cemetery."  (17 May 1900)

Shortly thereafter in the 1900 census, we find George W living in the Pennsylvania State Hospital for the Insane in Conewango.  Herbert Walker had become a clergyman, married twice and raised 8 kids; Rose had reared 13 children; Fremont had married and raised 6 children; Charles had married, no children; Kathryn Emily had married and raised 3 of 4 kids, adopted another; the others had died before reaching adulthood.  And Archie had married, fathered two girls and abandoned his family.

At the settlement of Elihu's estate, 11 June 1900, many interesting things are noted in the probate record.  Charles petitioned the estate to have Rose M Bloss removed as an heir; she was renunciated by Fremont.  Mary Sophia is not listed as an heir although she is living.  The estate was valued at $96 and the court advertised looking for Archie, as he is listed as 'whereabouts unknown.'    What did Rose do to merit such an action?  Was the reconnection with her mother to blame?
